The Vocal Ensemble THALITAS first created in 1996 as an activity of the Musical Association Apollo by George Kaloutsi. The first members were all students of the Conservatory of the Association and the majority of them participated in the Youth Choir of the Municipality of Heraklion, under the direction of Ms. Katerina Tzagkarakis . The name of the figure derived from the ancient Cretan music and legislator Thales, as well as the street "Thales" it was in the hall of the Apollo Club where all did the rehearsals of the first steps.

The initial aim of all was getting to know the members of the a cappella choral music of the Renaissance.
